Protecting Visa Conditions & PR Pathways
Changing courses in Australia as an international student is allowed, but it must be done carefully to ensure compliance with student visa conditions and protect your future Permanent Residency (PR) pathway.
If you are considering moving from one Master’s course to another, it’s typically straightforward, provided the new course is registered on CRICOS and is at the same or higher AQF level. However, if you’re switching from a Master’s to a Graduate Diploma, or from a Bachelor’s degree to a vocational course (Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma), you are moving to a lower AQF level, which can raise visa compliance concerns.
Before making a course change, consult a MARA-registered migration agent or education consultant. They can help assess the impact on your CoE, visa, and PR pathway, ensuring all documentation, notifications, and transitions comply with Australian immigration regulations.
Always notify your current and future education providers and ensure your CoE is updated in PRISMS to avoid any visa cancellation risks.
