State Nomination
State nomination empowers Australian state and territory governments to nominate skilled migrants who meet their specific workforce requirements. This nomination significantly increases your chances of being invited to apply for a skilled visa by the Australian Government.
Your residency outcome depends on the visa subclass under which you’re nominated (e.g., Subclass 190 or Subclass 491). Typically, applicants are expected to live and work in the nominating state and demonstrate relevant skills and experience in demand.
To apply for state nomination, you must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect and lodge a State Nomination Application via the respective state government website.
Requirement
- Positive skills assessment of your nominated occupation.
- Nominated occupation listed on the state's skilled visa occupation list.
- Meet the skilled age requirement.
- Minimum 65 points.
- Proof of required English proficiency.
- Qualification documents (Australian as well as Overseas).
- Work reference letter and other relevant documents (if applicable).
- Proof of Residency.
- Points claim proof.
- Commitment letter (if required).
- Meet all Department of Home Affairs visa requirements.
- Meet health and character requirements.
How to Get It
- Complete an EOI as well as the state nomination application.
- Receive an invitation during an invitation round.
- Gather your documents.
- Apply for the skilled visa within the indicated timeframe in your state nomination email.
- Await visa outcome.
To get a state nomination, submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to both the state and the Federal Government. Some states may charge an application fee.
Applicants are ranked on a points-based system, where higher experience, education, and English skills improve your chances.
Note: EOI and nomination applications are not visa applications. State processing can take up to 12 weeks.
